This prototype 6DoF (Six Degrees of Freedom) motion platform is designed to replicate the dynamic movements experienced on a vessel deck in varying sea states. The platform is capable of producing pitch, roll, heave, yaw, surge (forward and aft motion), and sway (side-to-side motion), allowing trainees to experience realistic vessel motions under controlled conditions.
All individual components have been tested and proven. Final assembly and full system commissioning will be completed and validated upon the sale of the first production unit.
The production design incorporates numerous improvements over the prototype, including enhancements to functionality, performance, and operating parameters.
The platform's motion profiles are fully programmable and can be started, adjusted, or stopped using a handheld remote control. The latest design incorporates an upgraded linear actuator system that delivers improved heave motion, resulting in greater realism during training exercises. Additional weatherproofing and protective features are available at additional cost to ensure reliable operation in outdoor training environments.
Each platform can be configured to meet the specific requirements of the training provider. Motion parameters, including the amplitude, frequency, and sequence of individual movements, are programmed through dedicated software installed on a laptop, enabling instructors to create customised training scenarios that simulate a wide range of sea states and operational conditions.
The platform provides a versatile and highly realistic training aid for personnel involved in marine transfers, offshore operations, and other activities where understanding and responding to vessel motion is essential for safe and effective operations.

Merchant Marine Training Kit
The Sea State Platform Training Kit provides a versatile and realistic training environment that allows instructors to conduct a wide range of practical exercises associated with pilot and worker transfer operations, vessel access systems, and working at heights.
Training scenarios include the deployment, inspection, and securing of both pilot (rope) ladders and accommodation ladders in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Trainees gain hands-on experience in identifying ladder defects, conducting pre-use safety inspections, performing routine maintenance, and verifying that ladder systems are correctly rigged and secured prior to use.
The facility also provides practical rope ladder climbing exercises, enabling participants to develop confidence and competence while ascending and descending ladder systems in a controlled environment. Additional exercises focus on the safe deployment, stowage, care, and maintenance of both pilot and accommodation ladder systems.
A key feature of the training kit is the programmable motion platform, which replicates the pitching, rolling and heaving motions experienced on a vessel or pilot boat in varying sea states. This allows trainees to practise embarking and disembarking between a moving deck and a pilot ladder under realistic conditions. The exercise develops the timing, balance, situational awareness and transfer techniques required during actual pilot transfer operations.
For trainee protection, all transfer exercises are conducted using a self-retracting lifeline (SRL) equipped with an integrated rescue and recovery function. This system provides continuous fall protection while allowing unrestricted movement during the transfer exercise. In the event of a slip, loss of footing, or fall, the rescue system enables the trainee to be quickly recovered, ensuring a safe and controlled training environment while maintaining the realism of the exercise.
The training kit can be configured to meet the requirements of pilot organizations, port authorities, maritime training centres, offshore operators, and vessel crews seeking practical experience in pilot transfer, ladder safety, working at heights, and marine access operations.
